Los taxis sin conductor serán una realidad en Japón en 2016

La conducción autónoma es una realidad que cada vez está más cerca: Japón será el primer país del mundo que tendrá taxis sin conductor.

Según el Gobierno de Japón, las primeras pruebas con estos taxis autónomos se efectuarán en marzo de 2016 y esperan que estén totalmente operativos para 2020, cuando se celebrarán los Juegos Olímpicos en Tokio.

Aunque los que primero se beneficiarán de este servicio serán los que acudan a los Juegos Olímpicos, la idea del gobierno japonés es que estos vehículos sirvan como solución de movilidad a los habitantes de zonas rurales a las que no llega el transporte público.

Para realizar las pruebas, estos taxis autónomos se trasladarán a una localidad al sur de Tokio, en la que irán realizando trayectos de unos tres kilómetros transportando viajeros reales, los cuales irán acompañados por personal autorizado para evitar posibles accidentes.

La tecnología utilizada para que este tipo de taxis pueda circular sin conductor se basa en una combinación de radares milimétricos, análisis de imágenes captadas por cámaras instaladas en el coche y GPS.
